Choosing the Right Drug and Treatment Program

If You Read Nothing Else on Our Site Read This

Here are the reasons why Passages has the highest cure rate in the country. We invite you to read them over to see if Passages is the right choice for you or your loved one, and then to call us at (866) 571-6014 if you have any questions or to make a reservation.

Here are some of the reasons why Passages has the highest success rate in the country. A program like the one we offer can only exist where one-on-one treatment is the backbone and mainstay of the facility's program. No other substance abuse treatment program offers this many services or has our in-depth understanding of addiction treatment.

At Passages Ventura, you will receive 32 one-on-one sessions, in one month, with staff that are among the finest professionals in the world of substance abuse treatment. Other residential substance abuse treatment centers rely almost exclusively on group meetings for client therapy. Yet some of the past events of our lives may be too shameful, hurtful, or embarrassing to discuss in a group setting. It may even be impossible to recall certain traumatic events while sitting in the confines of a group meeting. Only in the privacy of an individual session, with a professional therapist whose code of ethics insures confidentiality, do most of us feel safe enough to talk about our innermost fears and painful memories.

Throughout the vast majority of the addiction treatment industry, there is a belief that addiction and alcoholism are diseases. Almost every rehab focuses on the concept of disease, which labels you as an addict or alcoholic and condemns you to fight for sobriety for the rest of your life.

We know that the reason people use drugs and alcohol is to numb an underlying pain that has probably been there for years. Therefore our goal is to look for, discover, and heal the underlying problems. That core belief differentiates our treatment approach from others, and we see that belief proven every week at Passages, where clients are freed from their addiction and alcoholism by being healed of the conditions that caused them.

There are extraordinary differences among those who suffer from drug or alcohol dependency. Each of us has a unique family and environmental history, unique living conditions, unique social backgrounds, and unique personal experiences. Most importantly, we all have unique underlying problems that cause us to use drugs and alcohol. That is why you need an individualized treatment program designed just for you. Every person who comes to Passages Ventura has a treatment program that is designed for them based on their unique needs.

A person's psychological condition is at least partially responsible for his or her addiction and/or alcohol dependency. We may have traumatic memories that remain overwhelming, but because of the severity of those painful memories, we may cover them over with layers of forgetfulness. When we don’t deal with these submerged memories, they can disturb us at conscious and/or subconscious levels. As a result, we may find it hard to cope with marriage, work, relationships, the death of a loved one, financial burdens, illness, insecurity, physical impairment, or other aspects of our lives. And in order to manage the pain, we may turn to drugs and/or alcohol. A psychologist is a key part of the Passages Ventura healing program because he or she will help you discover your hidden pain and heal it so that it stops driving you to drugs or alcohol.

Blood chemistry analysis is a process that examines the vitamin and mineral content in your body to see if there are any deficiencies that may be causing you to self-medicate. Virtually all health issues have a biochemical and physiological root cause and origin. The following list outlines some very common health issues that accompany drug and alcohol dependency. Any of these conditions can be the direct cause of drug or alcohol use. You may be using substances as a way to cope with the feelings that arise within you as a result of these conditions. Failure to correct these deficiencies will almost always lead to relapse. With blood chemistry analysis, we can target the areas of your body that need to be strengthened and healed so that you no longer need to depend on drugs or alcohol to deal with weaknesses in your system.

Depression can be due to endocrine gland hypofunction, nutritional deficiencies, blood sugar problems, food allergies, or systemic yeast infection.

Anxiety
can be due to a deficiency of vitamin B1 and magnesium.

Insomnia
is often caused by a need for calcium, magnesium, or potassium or stems from hypoglycemia or thyroid or adrenal problems.

Fatigue
and low energy can be due to chronic viruses, anemia, endocrine hypofunction, yeast infection, low blood sugar, chemical sensitivity, weak digestion, or poor diet.

Headaches
and dizziness are often linked to liver toxicity, dehydration, blood sugar problems, low thyroid function, hypertension, or food allergies.

How Did you Hear about Passages Malibu Rehab

How Can Passages Malibu Help You

Drugs and alcohol flow through our bloodstream, leaving behind unhealthy substances that are stored in our muscle and fatty tissues. In addition to this, our muscles have memory that can hold onto trauma, which can later cause us physical pain and even relapse.

For successful treatment, it is essential to release past trauma and the toxins that we have stored in our bodies. At Passages Ventura, we use ancient and modern techniques to bring relief to our clients, improve circulation to the organs, balance energy, relieve tension, release stored toxins from the cells, and improve all bodily functions.

In some cases of dependency, especially if you are not able to discover the underlying cause of your dependency in any other way, hypnotherapy can hold the key. Hypnotherapy can help you achieve a state of mental relaxation so that you are more open to positive suggestion. With this process, you can experience more refreshing sleep, reduced tension and anxiety, improved self-esteem, and a better overall self-image.

While the body is ridding itself of drugs, we may feel depressed because we are lacking feel-good chemicals in the body, such as serotonin and dopamine. Exercise is a great way to start to feel better again because the process of exercising causes the body to produce endorphins (the feel-good chemicals in our body), and these endorphins help bring us out of our funk. Most of us who suffer from drug and/or alcohol abuse have let ourselves become physically deteriorated. It is a welcome change to begin to feel strong again, and that strength is a great self-esteem booster.

Spiritual counseling is not religious counseling but has to do with the condition of our hearts and spirits. Spiritual counseling seeks to clear problems at a profound level. It looks for answers in damaging belief systems, loss of personal power, blockages, thought processes, attitudes, life purpose, choices, boundaries, and commitment to truth and integrity.

It's easy to get lost in a crowd. In programs where there are sixty, seventy, eighty, or sometimes even one hundred other clients, individual treatment is not possible. At Passages Ventura, you are always important, always the focus of our attention. You will not slip through the cracks and you will not go unnoticed. You will get our full attention and you will get what you came for: individual treatment.

Each week, eight different therapists will work with you. At the end of each week, all of the therapists come together to have a “Treatment Team” meeting in which they discuss your progress and plan your program for the following week. At these important meetings, you will have some of the top minds in the healing world talking together about your program and your healing. The owners, Chris and Pax Prentiss are also there to offer valuable input. The outcome is simply amazing.

Getting over addiction and alcoholism is, at best, a tough road. Three times a day, you will have a wonderful break as you sit down to superb meals lovingly prepared and delightfully served. We can also meet most dietary needs you may have.

We believe that it is demeaning to ask a person who is ill and seeking treatment to wash our floors and scrub our toilets, which is what clients are asked to do at most treatment centers. At Passages Ventura, you will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity. We would no more ask you to scrub a floor than would a hospital where you are being treated for a medical problem. The self-image of substance abusers is already tarnished. There is no need to tarnish it further by requiring them to scrub floors or wash toilets as though they were being punished. At Passages, we have hired staff to do the chores while you rest and return to health.

During your stay, you will have several meetings with your Continuing Care Planner. In these sessions, you will discuss different options of aftercare that are right for you so that you can continue to improve yourself after you leave Passages Ventura.

In your final session before leaving, we go over your individual continuing care packet. In this packet, each therapist with whom you have worked inserts his or her personal recommendations and goals for you when you return home.

All appointments, addresses, and contact information for your continuing care therapists are included. We will even make appointments for you so that when you get home, you can start your aftercare right away.

A father and son team, Chris and Pax Prentiss are dedicated to maintaining the finest residential treatment program with the most gifted and experienced team of therapists to be found anywhere in the world.

There is a quality about Passages Ventura that words simply cannot convey. After you have been at Passages a few days, you will most likely say what many of our clients say: "This is the best thing I ever did for myself. I love it here." Even those whose parents or loved ones forced them to come here have called their loved ones to say, "Thanks, you saved my life."
